Compression Cat Back to the tool

Terms of Use

Effective 23 October 2026

1. Agreement to these terms

These Terms of Use ("Terms") govern your access to and use of the Compression Cat website and tool at compressioncat.com (the "Service"), provided by Eugene Antonov (an individual) ("we", "us").

By accessing or using the Service you agree to these Terms. If you do not agree, do not use the Service.

The Service requires no account and charges no fee. You do not register, and we do not identify you.

2. What the Service does

Compression Cat performs static analysis of mobile application build artifacts (.apk, .aab, .ipa and .zip files) entirely within your web browser. It reports the contents and sizes of files inside the artifact, and applies a set of heuristics that suggest where space may be recoverable.

The analysis runs on your device. We do not receive your file. See our Privacy Policy for detail.

3. Accuracy — please read this one

THE SERVICE PROVIDES ESTIMATES AND HEURISTIC ANALYSIS. IT IS A GUIDE, NOT AN AUTHORITY.

Specifically, and without limiting the disclaimers in Section 8:

  • Savings figures are of three kinds and the Service labels each one on screen. "Exact" figures are arithmetic on bytes present in your artifact. "Measured" figures come from running a real conversion over a sample and publishing a conservative percentile of the result — your files may do better or worse. "Estimate" figures are a judgement call.
  • Findings can overlap. The headline total is an upper bound, not a sum, and it may exceed what any real optimisation would recover.
  • Store size limits shown by the Service are reproduced from the operators' published documentation as at the date shown beside them. Those limits change without notice, and operators have at times published conflicting figures. Always confirm against the store's own current documentation before making a release decision.
  • Delivered-size figures for Android App Bundles are modelled, not measured. They account for the native-code split only, and do not model screen-density splits, language splits or on-demand feature modules.
  • The Service reads build artifacts. It does not build, sign, modify or verify them, and it cannot tell you whether an artifact is safe, correct, or fit to release.

YOU ARE SOLELY RESPONSIBLE FOR VERIFYING ANY FIGURE BEFORE RELYING ON IT, AND FOR ANY DECISION YOU TAKE — INCLUDING ANY RELEASE, SUBMISSION, DELETION OR ENGINEERING DECISION — WHETHER OR NOT INFORMED BY THE SERVICE.

4. Your files and your rights in them

You retain all right, title and interest in any file you analyse. We acquire no rights in it, because we never receive it.

You are responsible for ensuring you are permitted to analyse any file you use with the Service — for example, that you own it or have the necessary licence or authorisation from your employer or client.

Reports you export are generated on your device from your own file. What you do with them is your responsibility. Note that they contain file paths and structural details from your build, which may be confidential; review a report before sharing it.

5. Licence and restrictions

We grant you a limited, personal, non-exclusive, non-transferable, revocable licence to use the Service for its intended purpose. All rights not expressly granted are reserved.

The Service, its source code, design, text, and the Compression Cat name and logo are owned by us or our licensors and are protected by intellectual property laws. Third-party open-source components are used under their own licences, which are listed in the THIRD-PARTY-NOTICES file distributed with the software.

You agree not to:

  • use the Service in violation of any applicable law;
  • attempt to gain unauthorised access to any system or network connected to the Service;
  • interfere with, disrupt, or place an unreasonable load on the Service;
  • copy, modify, distribute, sell, sublicense, reverse engineer or create derivative works from the Service, except to the extent that restriction is prohibited by applicable law or expressly permitted by a separate written licence from us;
  • remove, obscure or alter any proprietary notice; or
  • use the Service to develop a competing product.

6. Availability

We may modify, suspend or discontinue the Service, in whole or in part, at any time and without notice or liability. We do not guarantee that the Service will be available, uninterrupted, or error-free.

8. Disclaimer of warranties

THE SERVICE IS PROVIDED "AS IS" AND "AS AVAILABLE", WITH ALL FAULTS AND WITHOUT WARRANTY OF ANY KIND.

TO THE FULLEST EXTENT PERMITTED BY APPLICABLE LAW, WE DISCLAIM ALL WARRANTIES, EXPRESS, IMPLIED, STATUTORY OR OTHERWISE, INCLUDING WITHOUT LIMITATION THE IMPLIED WARRANTIES OF MERCHANTABILITY, FITNESS FOR A PARTICULAR PURPOSE, TITLE, QUIET ENJOYMENT, ACCURACY AND NON-INFRINGEMENT.

WE DO NOT WARRANT THAT THE SERVICE WILL MEET YOUR REQUIREMENTS, THAT ITS RESULTS WILL BE ACCURATE OR RELIABLE, OR THAT IT WILL BE AVAILABLE, TIMELY, SECURE OR ERROR-FREE.

Some jurisdictions do not allow the exclusion of certain warranties, so some of the above may not apply to you.

9. Limitation of liability

TO THE FULLEST EXTENT PERMITTED BY APPLICABLE LAW, WE WILL NOT BE LIABLE FOR ANY INDIRECT, INCIDENTAL, SPECIAL, CONSEQUENTIAL, EXEMPLARY OR PUNITIVE DAMAGES, OR FOR ANY LOSS OF PROFITS, REVENUE, DATA, GOODWILL OR BUSINESS OPPORTUNITY, ARISING OUT OF OR RELATING TO YOUR USE OF OR INABILITY TO USE THE SERVICE, WHETHER IN CONTRACT, TORT (INCLUDING NEGLIGENCE) OR OTHERWISE, EVEN IF ADVISED OF THE POSSIBILITY.

TO THE FULLEST EXTENT PERMITTED BY APPLICABLE LAW, OUR TOTAL AGGREGATE LIABILITY ARISING OUT OF OR RELATING TO THESE TERMS OR THE SERVICE WILL NOT EXCEED ONE HUNDRED US DOLLARS (US$100).

Nothing in these Terms excludes or limits liability that cannot lawfully be excluded or limited. In particular, and as required by California Civil Code § 1668, nothing in these Terms exempts us from responsibility for our own fraud, wilful injury to the person or property of another, or violation of law, whether wilful or negligent. Nothing in these Terms limits liability for death or personal injury caused by negligence, or for gross negligence, where applicable law so provides.

Some jurisdictions do not allow the exclusion or limitation of incidental or consequential damages, so some of the above may not apply to you.

10. Indemnity

You agree to indemnify and hold us harmless from any claim, demand, loss or expense (including reasonable legal fees) arising from your use of the Service, your violation of these Terms, or your violation of the rights of any third party — except to the extent arising from our own fraud, wilful injury or violation of law.

11. Governing law and venue

These Terms are governed by the laws of the State of California, without regard to its conflict-of-laws rules.

You and we agree to the exclusive jurisdiction and venue of the state and federal courts located in Riverside County, California, for any dispute not subject to another agreed process, and each party waives any objection to that venue.

If you are a consumer resident in a jurisdiction whose law grants you the right to bring proceedings in your local courts, or grants you the protection of mandatory local consumer-protection rules, nothing here removes that right.

12. Changes to these terms

These Terms are effective as of 23 October 2026. We may revise them; when we do, we will change the effective date above. Material changes will be described on this page.

Your continued use of the Service after a revision takes effect constitutes acceptance of the revised Terms.

13. General

If any provision of these Terms is held unenforceable, it will be limited or severed to the minimum extent necessary and the remaining provisions will remain in full force.

Our failure to enforce a provision is not a waiver of it.

You may not assign these Terms; we may assign them in connection with a merger, acquisition or sale of assets.

These Terms, together with the Privacy Policy, are the entire agreement between you and us regarding the Service.
